2026년도 2분기 해외출판사 번역출판 지원사업 심사결과

2026-05-29

Applications for the 2026 Second Cycle of the Translation and Publication Grants for Overseas Publishers were accepted through April 30, 2026. A total of 106 applications were submitted by 93 publishers across 29 language regions.

The evaluation was conducted in two stages: a first-round document review and a second-round in-person deliberation.

Applications were assessed based on the following three criteria:

Literary Excellence (30%)

Publication Plan and Expected Impact (40%)

Applicant Capability and Strategic Value (30%)

Following the evaluation process, 67 projects from 60 publishers in 18 language regions were selected.

Among them, one indirect translation project was approved for publication support only.

Selection Committee Comments:

This cycle saw a notably high number of applications from overseas publishers with stable publishing capacity and well-established local distribution networks. The committee observed strong interest in works with clear market potential, such as healing fiction, web novels, essays, and graphic novels, while also recognizing a meaningful trend toward translating and publishing works of high literary merit and diversity, including twentieth-century Korean literature. Furthermore, the range of language regions and genres represented was more diverse than in previous cycles, indicating that interest in Korean literature is not a temporary phenomenon, but is developing into sustained and long-term engagement.

During the evaluation deliberations, the committee also offered several recommendations to overseas publishers to ensure the smooth implementation of the program. First, applicants are advised to ensure greater accuracy and completeness in the materials submitted with their applications. Since the selection committee must maintain fairness throughout the evaluation process, it is difficult to intervene even when submitted information appears inaccurate. Second, rights authorization must be properly secured from all relevant rights holders associated with the work, including Korean publishers. The committee emphasizes this requirement once again, as works published without proper authorization may give rise to issues at later stages.

The continued growth of international interest in Korean literature was clearly reflected in this cycle’s applications. We hope that the selected projects will contribute to further strengthening the global foundation and long-term sustainability of Korean literature abroad.
